What’s New?

The 2017 Volkswagen Passat gets automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning as standard across all trims. A new V6 SE trim has also been added. SE and R-Line trims get more standard features including Apple CarPlay compatibility and VW App-Connect for Android Auto. The SE with Technology also adds 18″ alloy wheels, remote start, and the LED taillights and headlights.

Exterior Features

The latest 2017 Volkswagen Passat has gotten rid of the round look of the last model and added a little more sharpness to it.

The hood is a power dome that has a much more sculptured appearance than the 2016 version and the headlights are also squared off with the grille, and they come with the LED additions which go along with daytime running lights. The lower grille takes the same look as the fog lights, but the surrounding part has more bulges and creases.

Interior Features

The layout of the cabin is pretty similar to the 2016 Passat. The interior has a few new updates and additions to it that are actually much more visible.

The most visible additions are the new steering wheel; no longer with the cheap-looking plastic parts which were used before and came away with the premium design features making it much better-looking than earlier. The inside of the cabin has been updated with high-quality materials too.

There’s new technology added on the inside; the infotainment system is the most noteworthy update. It now includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay now. This time, you can sync 2 mobile phones at the same time using Bluetooth that wasn’t the case before and that the competition didn’t have to their advantage.

The Passat uses a USB port for charging mobiles phones. It’s conveniently situated in a closable compartment which enables you to place your cell phone there for better data transfer ability and easy charging too.

Engine/ Fuel Efficiency

A 1.8L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated at 170 hp and 184 lbs. of torque is standard for all trims except the V6 SEL. The power generated is routed to the front wheels via the 6-speed automatic transmission system. The EPA fuel-economy ratings stand at 23 mpg city /34 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined.

The Forward Collision Warning system (included in-Front Assist) has sensors in front to assist and also monitor traffic. It can alert you to any potential collision with the car ahead. If the collision is looming, Autonomous Emergency Braking (included in-Front Assist) can help brake the vehicle.

Front and rear crumple areas assist in absorbing crash energy. The rigid safety cage also assists in deflecting it away from the passengers and driver.
