A lot of people might be surprised when they learn that the least expensive model of BMW on the market today is an SUV. The 2016 BMW X1 boasts incredible head and cargo space, the best in class in fact! Performance wise, the X1 lives up to BMW’s standards, if not actually soars past them. This is a utility vehicle with a lot more efficiency and ability than you could ever imagine.
The new X1 has shrunk a little in terms of length compared with the 2015 model but is also a little bit taller. The windshield has lengthened to just over the front wheel arches. BMW have gone for a more classic look with their redesign here and rather than looking like a wagon, it has a more sophisticated and streamlined look.
The seats come cloth covered as standard with 8-way power adjusting capabilities. The steering wheel is tilt/telescopic and there is a front seat adjustable arm rest for the driver’s comfort. The interior comes in a high gloss black trim with a pearl gloss chrome highlight. There are 5 seats in total in the crossover and you have the option to increase the cargo area with the storage package.
A 7 speaker sound system comes with Bluetooth Audio Streaming and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Tuner. Standard features on the SUV include Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate controls and a panoramic sunroof. New this year is a powered liftgate and BMW’s ConnectedDrive app integrates your Facebook, Twitter, Spotify and more!
Engine/ Fuel Efficiency
The SUV rides on the three-Series platform and it offers 2 engines options: a 240 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 300 horsepower 3.0-liters 6-cylinder engine. Drivers are also able to choose between rear- wheel drive and the all-wheel drive. However, the only available transmission is the eight-speed automatic transmission.
Pretty much any safety feature that you may need is included in the X1; airbags, impact sensors, antitheft, and an Emergency Request SOS button. In the case of a collision, the impact sensor automatically switches off the fuel pump, unlocks doors, and turns on your hazards.
