Ahead of the 2017 redesign, the BWM 5-Series enters 2016 with only minimal changes. The 550i adds a satellite radio, Harman Kardon stereo, and a power trunk lid. All 5 Series models feature advanced Bluetooth and USB, with mobile office capacities (email, texts, voice memos, etc), and sync for a second phone.
The BMW 528i comes standard with 17″ wheels, LED accent lights, automatic and adaptive xenon headlights. LED foglights are auto-dimming and there are also power-folding heated mirrors, automatic wipers, and a sunroof.
Optional features include a power panoramic moonroof, satellite radio, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system, a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system, a rearview camera, a night vision camera with the pedestrian detection, side- and top-view parking cameras, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning and lane departure warning with automatic braking and pedestrian detection.
Long, clean lines provide a way to the newest standard and available in-vehicle technology. The multi function steering wheel offers controls for the Bluetooth hands-free calling. Bluetooth in the 5-Series is part of a set of connectivity technology which includes improved Mobile Office and USB connections, boasting message dictation.
The infotainment system uses the iDrive system, operated by the center-console rotary dial. There is a 10.2″ high-resolution primary screen to control it through. Therefore, you can operate a 12-speaker stereo with HD radio receiver, a Bluetooth-connected phone, and a standard voice-controlled 3D navigation system with the real-time traffic updates.
Engine/ Fuel Efficiency
This vehicle is made with 300 HP, 3.0 liter, six-cylinder engine. The 5-Series has grown in both fuel economy and performance. The vehicle has a fuel consumption rate of 26/29 MPG which is excellent for such a high performing car.
Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control. There are front-seat side airbags, active front head restraints and also side curtain airbags. Also, the braking system occasionally wipes the brake rotors during wet conditions and automatically snugs all brake pads to the rotors in proper preparation when you sharply lift off the throttle.
Also, standard are the Remote Services emergency communications systems and BMW Assist. These include an SOS button, and automatic crash notification, in addition to remote door unlocking and stolen car recovery.
